Brief Profile

The Dutch people, sometimes referred to as Netherlanders, consist of people who are foreign born from the Netherlands. Today, despite other ethnic groups making up 19.6% of the Netherlands' population, distinct ethnic identities are not viewed as important, and therefore Nederlander, which often refers to anyone possessing Dutch citizenship, is common self-identity for Dutch. As such, they are not people who have a Dutch ancestry North America. Instead, they are foreign born people from the Netherlands in the United States and people who speak Dutch in Canada.

Not included among Dutch people are the Pennsylvania Dutch people, a group of German Americans who settled in Pennsylvania in the colonial era and whose name is a corruption of the word "Deutsch", meaning "German".

Even though early Dutch migrations were Protestants of the Reformed tradition, more recent Dutch migrations are bringing people who claim to be irreligious or Roman Catholic. They are predominantly non-religious.

Prayer Points

  • Pray Christians will intentionally seek out Dutch people, become their friends, and share their life in both word and deed with the Dutch.
  • Pray God will breakthrough strongholds that prevent Dutch from understanding and accepting the truth of a ultimate creator God who became intimate in the incarnation of Jesus Christ.
