The Fulbe Futa, also named Futa Jalon, are a Fulbe people who originated from several places in central and west Africa, including Senegal. Traditionally, they were named the Pular, which is the name of their language.
Historically, they were semi-nomadic and many settled in the state of Futa Jalon. The area became a multiethnic, multilingual society, ruled by Muslim Fulbe and backed by powerful free and slave armies. The Fulbe of the Futa Jalon and
Futa Toro states were able to take advantage of the growing slave trade with the Europeans on the coast, particularly the French and Portuguese.
They speak Pular, and place importance on narratives and proverbs that transmit valuable life lessons.
Almost all Fulbe Futa in the United States adhere to Islam, integrating animistic practices into their Muslim religious duties.
Pray that God will use dreams to reveal the truth and hope found in God becoming an intimate as revealed through Jesus Christ.
Pray that evangelicals will intentionally live among, learn their language, and share a contextualized form of the Gospel.
