Arab, Southern Yemeni people began to move to the USA due to the impoverished conditions of Yemen, they simply came to America looking for a better life. Many came to work in the automotive industry and because of Michigan being home to a large percentage of other Yemeni people groups.
Before moving their entire family, men would come for a year or two to work. After saving money and finding a good place to live, they would bring the rest of the family.
They are devout followers of Islam. The women still wear the traditional Islamic clothing and keep other traditions and teaching from the Qu'ran. The men are very also committed to the teachings of Islam. Moreover, they retain their culture. They have very close ties to their family and rely very heavily upon one another. Children, even after being married, often stay behind to help and care for their parents.
