Brief Profile

The Snohomish, known as The Lowland People and the sometimes called the Sinahomish (or Sneomuses), are a Native American people in reside in Washington state just north of Seattle. Historically, they lived near the mouth of the Snohomish River where they were fishermen, hunters, and gatherers. The present day county, the Snohomish County, where they reside is named after them.

Originally, in 1855, some Snohomish moved to the Tulalip reservation. Others did not move to the reservation and have fought since 1915 to secure Treaty promises and federal recognition.

Their tribal office is near the ferry landing in Edmonds and they hold an annual June Powwow which is held at Fort Flagler State Park on Marrowstone Island.

Many claim a religious affiliation of some kind. A small percentage are evangelical Christians.
