Brief Profile

Afrikaners are a South Africa ethnic group descended from predominantly Dutch settlers, but are of mixed ethnic descent. As such, their language, Afrikaans, is similar to Dutch while at the same time distinguishable from Dutch and falls under the Germanic language groups.

Traditionally, Afrikaners enjoy dance along with playing rugby and cricket. They also favor listening to country music. Afrikaners tend to blend within the American culture. Second generation Afrikaners tend not to use Afrikaans as their primary language. Afrikaners traditionally come from a Dutch Reformed Christian heritage but the majority of present day Afrikaners are either nominal Christian or related to other Christian denominations.

The Afrikaner people are scattered throughout North America with larger populations concentrated in larger metro areas.

Prayer Points

  • Pray for evangelical Afrikaners to understand and open their hearts to the Great Commission of "go and make disciples of all nations."
  • Pray that God will call out evangelical Afrikaners to go cross-culturally engaging the many of the least people groups both in North America and abroad.
  • Pray for Afrikaners who have yet responded to the Gospel message and experienced a intimate relationship with a living God through Christ Jesus.
