Brief Profile

The Mandaean, also known as Sabean Mandean, are an ethno-religious people who originated from Iran as well as Iraq. Since 2007, Mandaean refugees have resettled in the United States.

As an ethno-religious people, they practice Mandaeism. Mandaeism is a Gnostic religion with a strongly dualistic worldview. They revere Adam, Abel, Seth, Enosh, Noah, Shem, Aram and especially John the Baptist, but reject Abraham, Moses and Jesus of Nazareth. They group existence into two main categories: light and dark. They have a dualistic view of life, which encompasses both good and evil; all good is thought to have come from the World of Light and all evil is considered to be a product of the World of Darkness.

They are scattered mostly in Massachusetts, Michigan, Texas, Colorado, and California.
