Guinean people originated from Guinea, a country smaller than the US state of Oregon on the west coast of Africa. Guinea is bordered with Guinea-Bissau and Senegal to the north, with Mali and Côte d'Ivoire to the east, and with Liberia and Sierra Leone to the south. Guinean migration to North America has a long history with increasing numbers since the 1990s. They speak French, the official language of Guinea.
Music and dance is woven into the cultural fabric of Guinean people. The balélé is the most traditional dance: a traditional dance that the women usually take up at any ceremony or festival, usually accompanied by a musical group comprised of three or four men.
Guineans adhere to Christianity either as Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Baptists, Jehovah's Witnesses, Seventh-Day Adventists, or various other evangelical churches.
