The Tswana people originated from Botswana and are the majority people group, making up approximately 80% of the population in their homeland. Botswana is a landlocked sovereign country located in Southern Africa.

Many Tswana speak English. However, at home and among one another, they often are conversing in their mother tongue, Tswana, a Bantu language.

The cuisine of Botswana is unique but also shares some characteristics with other cuisine of Southern Africa. A food unique to Botswana includes seswaa, heavily salted mashed-up meat.

The majority of Tswana people identify themselves as Christians. Anglicans, Methodists, the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa, and Baptists make up the majority of Christians.
