Profile

Baltimore-Columbia-Towson is the largest and most populated metro area in Maryland, and one of the largest sea ports on the Atlantic coast. Due to its history as an immigrant destination, many European families still reside in its downtown area creating a unique cultural atmosphere in the inner city. The metro area has one of the highest incomes per household, and is considered one of the best places to live in the country. Due to this fact there has recently been a large influx of wealthy east and south Asian immigrants that have moved to the area.

Asian people groups comprise the majority of the foreign born population. There are significant populations from China, and Korea that have been Ethnic staples in the area for the past several decades. More recently, there has been a significant increase in the southeast Asian population from countries like Vietnam and the Philippines. The city has also seen steady immigration from South Asia as well, with a large Indian population found in the area.

However, there are also large amounts of Latin American and European people as well. Because it is a port city, Baltimore became a destination for a large number of Irish, German, Polish, Italian, and Greek immigrants. It is famous for its iconic Little Italy neighborhood located in the heart of its downtown area. Overall The greater Baltimore area is a rather ethnically diverse place, filled with rich cultural history from around the world.
