Profile

San Diego has roots as a European colony, and in the majority of its early history was a predominately white city. There are still remnants of these European immigrants and their effects found throughout the city in the large Euro-American populations that are present. However, in recent years the foreign-born population has steadily began to grow. With a large amount of immigrants from Latin and east Asian countries, as well as refugees from Africa and southeast Asia, San Diego is becoming a mix of ethnic cultures.

The largest ethnic group in San Diego is Latin American, the majority of which come from Mexico due to the city's close proximity to the Mexican border. However, the fastest growing people groups in the greater San Diego area are from Asia. With a large amount of people immigrating from countries like China, Korea, Vietnam, and the Philippines, the Asian population in San Diego is growing at a very steady rate, and having a large amount of influence on the city as well.
