Brief Profile

Congolese originated from of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Republic of the Congo. As a result of war in their homeland, their population has more than doubled over the past ten years.

They speak Lingala, a Bantu language spoken throughout the northwestern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a large part of the Republic of the Congo. They also speak English, French, Swahili, Kikongo, and Tshiluba.

Several Congolese organizations reinforce the people group identity. They gather annually for holidays like New Year's Day and Independence Day of the Democratic Republic of Congo (June 30), celebrating with Congolese traditional food, music and dancing.

Most Congolese claim Christianity as their religion. However, some seek materialism and a secular lifestyle.

Prayer Points

  • Pray that Congolese will remain firm in their faith in the face materialism and secularism.
  • Pray that God will call out evangelical Congolese to obey the Great Commission by sharing their personal faith in Christ with unreached African peoples.
