Brief Profile

French history in North America is long and immense. They migrated in three waves, the last being the biggest, taking place after the French Revolution in 1793. One migrate city in the United States of French peoples was the present metro area of Louisville, Kentucky, which received its namesake from King Louis VXI of France. Although at a slower rate, French people continue to migrate for employment or school.

Over time French influence has decreased as assimilation has increased. However, French enclaves still exist with French being the dominant language. Many places in Canada are enclaves of French speakers. In the United States, although New Orleans prides itself in its French Quarters, those who claim to speak French at home are relatively few numbering a little over ten thousand.

Though the French people have a history of Christianity and Catholicism, most French today are secularist or at best culturally non0-religious. Evangelical French worldwide are fewer than 1%.
