Brief Profile

The majority of Telugu people in the United States originated from the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in India. Population figures vary from over 100,000 to over 800,000. The 2010 US Census estimates 200,000. A conservative estimate is slightly over 200,000.

Telugu celebrate several important annual festivals all which follow the Hindu calendar, with Deepavali being in October or November. The majority of Telugu people are professionals such as doctors, biomedical scientists, businessmen, engineers, information technologists, entrepreneurs, pharmacists, professors, teachers, real estate developers and highly skilled workers.

The North American Telugu Association (NATA), formed in 2013, speaks to the fact of the growing Telugu population in the United States. This Association also reinforces Telugu identity by serving the Telugu in the United States with cultural and social activities from their homeland in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
